If you love herbal teas, loose leaf teas, and true teas, a glass teapot may be your new best friend. They’re versatile, they’re beautiful, and they’re incredibly useful. So the next time you want to brew up a cup of afternoon tea, give a glass teapot a try. Here’s how to choose one, how to use one, and a list of all their benefits.
Glass teapots commonly use borosilicate glass. It has a low thermal expansion point which means it doesn’t expand under high heat. This is how glass teapots can hold boiling water without damage.
Some glass teapots have built-in infusers near the center. When you pour boiling water into the glass teapot, you get to see the tea leaves unfurl inside the infuser. This is the primary reason so many tea lovers are enamored with glass.
After you use your glass teapot, dump all the excess tea. Then give it a rinse and clean it out with soap and water. Hand dry it with a soft cloth and spot-check it for leftover soap residue.
If your glass teapot has stains, make a paste out of baking soda and water. Then gently rub your teapot down with the solution. Let it sit for about 20 minutes then give it a rinse. This should remove your teapot’s stains.
As long as you use your glass teapot as directed, it should be safe to use. And since most glass teapots are made with borosilicate, you don’t have to worry about heavy metals.
